Educational offer:

Recommended type of visa

For degree students

Students coming to the University of Porto from countries outside the Schengen Area must apply for a Residence Visa for studies at the Portuguese Consulate in your country/region of origin and/or residence, which allows the entry and stay in Portugal for over one year. Click here for more information about Residence Visas.

After arrival in Portugal with a Residence Visa, students/researchers must schedule an interview to apply for a Residency Permit, with AIMA - Agência para a Integração, Migrações e Asilo, which may be valid until the end of the study programme, research, internship or professional training.

Please note that, upon arrival in Portugal, whenever students have not been subjected to any border control by the authorities, you must go to a PSP (Public Security Police) or GNR (National Republican Guard) station, or an AIMA office – Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum within three working days of your arrival in Portugal to register your entry (Declaration of Entry). This procedure is mandatory, and the deadlines must be met.

As part of the existing partnership with AIMA – Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum, there is a Local Support Centre for the Integration of Migrants (CLAIM U.Porto), an AIMA service that provides support and information to international students on issues such as visas, residence permits, family reunification, health and work, among other everyday matters, in collaboration with the relevant authorities, namely AIMA, promoting the integration into the University and the City.
