The provision of durable, hazard-resilient, sustainable, and accessible housing is vital for promoting equality, health, education, and social services. It yields indirect benefits such as contributing to economic growth, enhancing health and education outcomes, and positively impacting gender dynamics. However, there exists a substantial housing deficit in countries like Mozambique, Somalia, and Tanzania. Natural and man-made hazards exacerbate the housing crisis, with millions displaced in SAR due to drought, floods, and conflict. Given the environmental impact of the construction sector, there is a growing emphasis on eco-friendly construction materials and practices. Earth, as a construction material, offers several advantages
such as sustainability, affordability, thermal and sound insulation, and low environmental impact.
The PURSUE project aims to promote the use of locally available, eco-friendly, and affordable construction materials, fostering collaboration among higher education institutions, professionals, and communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. The project involves collaboration between universities in Türkiye, Portugal, Mozambique, Tanzania, and Somalia (2 HEIs from Europe, 6 HEIs from SAR, and 1 associate partner; 9 partners in total) focusing on supporting sustainable development goals such as industry innovation, sustainable cities, responsible consumption, climate action, and partnerships for development. The project aims to enhance the capacity of universities and professionals in the region through courses, training programs, and
laboratory improvements through 7 WPs. Target groups include students, academics, technicians, and practitioners in civil engineering and architects.
Stakeholders include research centers, public bodies, NGOs, embassies, and the private sector. Key indicators of success include increased awareness of earthen materials, enrollment in courses, usage of new equipment, and dissemination of project activities and results.

Redesign of agrifood systems is urgent to mitigate the effects of climate change and fulfil sustainable development goals. This process requires that professionals involved in the food life cycle have a set of competencies currently not present in the curricula, such as the ability to assess the environmental impact and sustainability of the activities and processes in the agri-food systems or the most recent scientific and technological developments to increase resilience to the effects of climate change and the productivity in the agroindustry and food processing.
The project aims to identify and fill those gaps in 5 universities from 3 countries in South America (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil and Uruguay). The concrete goal is to modernise a wide range of food-related study programs on the participating IES, including agronomy, agroecology, bioprocesses and food technologies at undergraduate, master and doctorate levels. To achieve and sustain these curricular changes, teachers from all the participating HEIs will be trained in the new content by experienced professors and researchers from 4 HEIs in 3 European countries (Belgium, Spain and Portugal).
A transdisciplinary approach involving teachers, students, and relevant societal actors (local/rural communities, farms, industry and commerce) will bring closer training, labour market and societal needs. The curricular changes will materialise in developing 18 courses to be incorporated into the existing programs, four new study programs, and nine modernised laboratories for practical. All the created material for students and teachers will be offered freely and openly through a series of MOOCs to maximise the project’s impact.
We expect these changes will contribute to employability, sustainable growth, transition to a greener economy, and the empowerment of local communities by addressing how the degradation of natural resources and the deterioration of productive systems affects the local populations.

The 1170-Reefs habitat, as outlined by the EU Habitats Directive, encompasses a diverse range of benthic communities of algae, animal species, and corallogenic concretions, supporting over 1000 plant species and 7000 animal species. These reefs play a critical ecological role by acting as ecosystem engineers, providing essential services, and stabilizing carbon dioxide into biogenic structures. However, reefs are highly threatened by climate change, pollution, increased suspended particles, and physical impacts from divers and fishing gear, which are further exacerbated by the destruction of slow-growing organisms.
To address these challenges, the Habitats Directive emphasizes the importance of maintaining and restoring these habitats to a favorable conservation status, considering economic, social, and cultural factors. The RestReef proposal aims to leverage the expertise of Portugal, Spain, and Croatia to develop a transnational training program in marine biology and ecological restoration. This initiative supports Erasmus priorities by fostering environmental conservation, promoting interconnected higher education systems, and encouraging innovative teaching practices, ultimately preparing professionals to restore reef habitats effectively.

However, STP has a high fruits and vegetables biodiversity, underexplored in terms of Food Technology, as well as their potential nutritional value, which is our great inspiration to go forward with the TecBioFood proposal. The major goal is to improve competences at higher and technical education in Food Science and Technology through its bioresources, with the purpose to enhance STP sustainable development. For that, European Universities (Porto/ Vigo) will transfer knowledge/competences to University of STP (USTP) + Institute of Accounting, Administration, and Informatics (IUCAI) by a joint proposal for 1st/2nd cycle courses curricula improvement and by a comprehensive formation plan, using innovative online and face-to-face pedagogical methods, and involving theoretical, technical, and hands-on approaches. It will implement a Food Technology Laboratory at USTP, for the practical classes of the transformation of raw food. The best processing methods will be tested by the USTP trained teachers/students to the selected native fruits/vegetables. Sustainable energy sources and reusable packaging will be privileged and physical-chemical, microbiological, shelf-life and sensory evaluations will be carried out locally and in Portugal/Spain to validate the final products. Capacity building of IUCAI partner will be on Marketing and digital management throughout the production process. To strengthen the links between bioresources and biodiversity protection and local communities, the food products developed at USTP will be integrated in the food support activities of HELPO to vulnerable targets. The inclusion of the food products in school and hospital menus, adding nutritional value, together with community training, will leave the seed for new economic opportunities for the evolution of STP agri-food sector, aligned with the Green Deal and UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Life Support Training and Dissemination (LIFESTRAND) Project envisages a multi-lateral partnership between 9 Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) and 1 Training Centre to safeguard the health and survival rights of vulnerable populations in Ukraine and Georgia affected by the Russian Occupation and military aggression.
The ongoing war in Ukraine and earlier military aggression of Russia against Georgia demonstrated the special vulnerability and direct life-threatening risks to the communities living in Military Risk Areas (MRAs). Individuals and families living in these regions are at substantially increased survival and health risks, as well as humanitarian support needs. The special vulnerability of population living in MRAs of Ukraine and Georgia, along with damaged or limited healthcare infrastructure, calls for strengthening the First Aid skills of local communities in provision of Life Support and Pre-hospital Trauma Care.
In response to the ongoing war in Ukraine and persisting security threats in the region, the LIFESTRAND project will build capacities of 7 HEIs in Ukraine and Georgia in teaching First Aid skills to HEI staff, students and general population.
Ultimately the Project will benefit 242 Staff and Students of 7 HEIs and at least 7,200 Georgian and Ukrainian citizens living in MRAs through institutional- and community-based First Aid training.
The First Aid Guides developed and used for the training will cover core elements of the Life Support and Pre-hospital Trauma Care.
The LIFESTRAND Consortium will represent 10 Partner Institutions from 4 countries (2 EU Members States and 2 Neighborhood East countries), including 9 HEIs and 1 Training Centre. 2 HEIs and 1 Training Centre represent 2 EU Member States (Spain and Portugal), while 7 beneficiary HEIs 2 will represent Neighborhood East countries (Ukraine and Georgia).

Mobility is not a value in itself. Simply having first-hand experience of “otherness” or living in a foreign country does not automatically lead to intercultural learning. Meaningful immersion in a different culture can only lead to intercultural competence development when it is accompanied by sufficient reflection and analysis.
Learning mobility offers students effective opportunities to increase their academic knowledge, enhance their employability skills and foreign language proficiency, as well as to foster their personal growth and intercultural development. Research, however, indicates that credit mobility does not automatically guarantee the development of intercultural competences or a dissipation of prejudice. Mobile students often have certain biases and prejudices, are not always able to effectively interact with locals or properly respond to challenging situations occurring at the intersection of cultures. After their mobility period, reflecting on individual development can be challenging and in its absence, the benefits of intercultural experiences may not be clear enough.
Higher education institutions can address these barriers by equipping students with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes to better deal with and learn from intercultural encounters. To this end, preparation can be valuable for students to make more of their international mobility from an intercultural point of view, and increase the overall quality of the experience. Additionally, debriefings offer safe and well-framed reflection and analysis opportunities to returnees, to help them process what they experienced abroad, which is a condition for actual intercultural competence development.
In many cases institutions still limit their services to the immediately salient logistical, health and safety, and academic aspects of a students’ study abroad. Opportunities for reflection upon return also often remain untapped. This project aims to address those needs.
PADMICA develops ready-made blended intercultural preparation and debriefing modules, that are rooted in intercultural education theory and hold up in different institutional settings and cultural contexts, targeting outgoing students.
The project will also enable International Relations Officers/Higher Education Institution staff to deliver those modules by implementing a train-the-trainer module, contributing to the development of their skills and strengthening their role as multipliers.

From STEM to STEAM, architecture is a trigger, therefore design education is a crucial way of thinking, and not only for architects.
UpGranT identifies GT as a legacy, a flexible learning pathway exposing students to diversity and otherness. Re- empowering this long-standing practice as a transnational, multi-mediated learning and sharing practice aimed at experimenting an in-situ pedagogical model, i.e. learning by travelling, from real buildings, experiencing affinities among EU townscapes.
Activities
UpGranT partnership covers five geographical and cultural contexts, which re-frame GT as an inclusive discovery of diversity and complexity both in past and contemporary appropriations.
Sharing criteria of selection and interpretation, the project focuses on distinctive past and present figures, through travel outputs and itineraries, interpreting relevant works. Partners will jointly undertake 4 GTs, with Porto testing reading keys and teaching tools with students from all institutions.
Impact
Integrating life-fed learning frameworks and digital tools, UpGranT bridges into the future a long-standing apprenticeship based on travelling networks, fostering informal student-centred learning practices, self-motivation, self-development and creative awareness.
UpGranT moves beyond a predefined idea of EU identity, solely based on classical culture, by including contemporary architecture, bringing to the foreground the negotiations and conflicts that are an integral part of it.

Coordinating Institution | European University Foundation, Luxembourg |
URL | https://set-project.eu/ |
The real long-term aspiration of the SET project is the improvement of students’ opportunities to engage in more environmentally sustainable habits during their mobility and the mindset change regarding the trip to the mobility destination as a transformative experience in itself.
The SET project was designed to address the three following objectives:
-Support the ongoing transition to a more environmentally sustainable Erasmus+ programme by researching the main features and reasoning behind students’ choices of transport to go on mobility;
-Through the platform for the Sustainable Erasmus Travel, contribute to changing the narrative and promoting the journey to the Erasmus+ mobility as an educative and transformative experience to explore more European countries and enjoy the European citizenship to the fullest;
-Recognise and visualise the added value of green travel by developing a prototype to recognise green soft skills.
This will be achieved by analysing the travel patterns of students, including the implementation and use of the green top up, and assessing what tips the balance for students to use more sustainable means of transport. Secondly, we will set up an online competition for students to showcase the experience of their journey to and from their mobility destination through more sustainable modes of transport. Thirdly, we will produce a digital repository of green competencies gained when travelling sustainably and create a framework for the recognition of such skills. Finally, we will focus on the broad dissemination of the project results and their translation into concrete policy recommendations for Erasmus+ programme stakeholders. Overall, we seek to reach 1.5M students and 500 higher education staff across Europe.
The results of the project will have a long-lasting effect in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), as they will serve as the basis for policies on the environmental sustainability of Erasmus+ mobilities. We will contribute to recommendations to minimise the carbon footprint of Erasmus+, a significant part of which includes physical mobility, through:
-The recognition of what the tipping point for students is to choose more environmentally friendly modes of transport to go on mobility;
-The analysis of the travel habits of HEIs students, as compared with the implementation of the green top up;
-The launch of an online competition in the Platform for the Sustainable Erasmus Travel to entice students to travel through more sustainable means of transport. Likewise, this will ensure an acknowledgment of the opportunity a slower journey to mobility represents;
-The demonstration and validation of the learning outcomes achieved through green mobility and their link to future employability.”

The Erasmus GAP project brings a European perspective to a topic that is mainly handled at the national or institutional level.
It provides large-scale data sets from several European countries to document the existing gap among students with realistic opportunities for mobility and those without. The visualisation of the data and related training will provide a method for HEIs to document the gap and develop strategies for reducing it. The policy recommendations based on robust data are aimed at decision-makers to help them implement a significantly more inclusive mobility programme.
An Inclusivity Toolkit will be created to support the assessment of the mobile and non-mobile student population composition at an institutional level.
The data repository – and its visualisation – will showcase the actual state of play at the European level.
The peer activities and the national workshops will trigger the sharing of experiences and expertise that are highly relevant when implementing Erasmus+.
Based on these activities, a set of policy recommendations will be produced, describing the changes needed to ensure the gap between the students who undertake an Erasmus mobility and the overall student population decreases.
The approach of the Erasmus Gap project will pave the way for more inclusive mobility activities, ensuring higher education institutions can better assess whether they are indeed reaching all students with fewer opportunities and all underrepresented groups in mobility.
The visualisation of the large-scale data sets to be collected from different European countries will help higher education institutions and national agencies to develop their own instruments to fully seize the importance of this gap and its negative impact on social inclusion.
Collected data and the recommendations based on them will also offer decision-makers a new factual base for informed choices.

In a world that is constantly evolving, technology and innovation are more important than ever. However, women and girls remain significantly underrepresented in STEM fields, with only 26% of schoolgirls today interested in STEM subjects. In addition, teachers often find it challenging to encourage pupils’ interest in STEM subjects and explain their importance to younger children. In fact, STEM subjects are often seen as highly theoretical and children typically start learning STEM only later in their school years.
To support the early introduction of STEAM concepts, this project promotes the use of storytelling in STEAM education, with the addition of the creative element “A” for Art, as a method of presenting STEM topics in a way that younger children (6 to 9 years old) can easily relate to. The project will equip teachers with new skills and resources, such as ready-to-use lesson plans and hands-on experiments, as well as stories of women role models in STEM, to empower them to teach STEM subjects in a more engaging and stimulating way, creating inclusive learning environments, and encouraging girls of all backgrounds to pursue STEM careers.

Reuse and safeguarding of the contemporary heritage affect tens of millions of people in Europe and hundreds of millions around the world; affect the quality of life of citizens through where they live and where they develop their lives. Cities and urban environments in Europe should preserve their typology and identity and try to maintain their specific nature in comparison with other places in the world. They are realities that make Europe attractive and competitive and contribute to the well-being of its citizens.
Providing high-level qualification for future professionals and researchers focused on the safeguarding, conservation and reuse of 20th century urban and built heritage is the overarching goal of the 90 ECTS "Architectural and Urban Contemporary Heritage-ARURCOHE" Erasmus Mundus Joint Master to be jointly implemented by the Official and Associated Partners.

AGRIFOOD4FUTURE is a world-class ERASMUS+ initiative aimed at building VET skills and educational programs addressing the needs of the “agriculture of the future”. By bringing together European leading actors from VET-academia-research-business across regions with tradition in the agri-food (yet lagging in new practices adoption), we aim at building centers of vocational excellence able to respond to existing and emerging needs in the sector, while targeting the key priorities of the sector: digitalization, decarbonization and sustainability. Scientists, policymakers, and open visioned agrifood players have noted the transformative potential of new and emerging agriculture practices, such as climate-smart agriculture, smart farming, precision agriculture, regenerative and organic practices, NEXUS based approach to agri-food, etc., but found difficulties to implement it at large scales. Barriers such as the insufficient level of awareness, soft and technical skills, and limited entrepreneurial mindset of, usually, more conservative farming professionals have been inhibitors of change. Aligned with the need of writing new narratives for the “agriculture of the future” we aim to implement and develop vocational training and educational system from low-to-higher EQF levels, including lifelong learning tools for farmer advisors, SMEs, and agro-food players. AGRIFOOD4FUTURE will provide them with exemplary best practices and advances in the sector. It will equip them with technical, soft, and entrepreneurial skills towards new ventures and innovative mindset. It will foster perception change and acceptance of agro-food sector as a “bright” vocational career option, while preparing the sector for adoption of smart, advanced, and sustainable practices.

As you finish reading this sentence, do you know how many workers died in mines around the world? Mining has always been a vital economic and social activity since pre-historic times. Providing valuable resources for the survival and the well-being of a considerable part of humanity. Although it is a crucial activity, it ranks as one of the most dangerous working sectors. And still has a negative image within society. When an injury occurs at a workplace it comes at a cost, not just in the suffering of the injured person, but also direct and indirect costs for the company and society. Large mining companies are talking about goals such as “Zero Harm”. To achieve a Zero Harm environment two main measures should be done, one obvious method is continuously identifying, eliminating or reducing risks at the risk management stage. The other essential method is training workers to deal with the risks in a risk-free environment, for instance using Virtual Reality and Augmented reality (VR\AR) equipment to mimic the mining environment. Safety Training with Real Immersivity for Mining (STRIM) arises from the synergy between higher education institutions and mining companies providing tools to improve occupational health and safety (OSH) conditions and implementation of coherent and comprehensive educational approaches for mining sector. With the help of implementation smart technologies in proper training, these tools will improve capacity building, modernisation of universities and to provide safety-oriented culture. This proposed KA aims at enhancing knowledge exchange through an effective collaboration between researchers in the fields of Occupational hygiene, safety and health in and environment in Mining Engineering. The project aims to modernize the educational programs of HEIs in African countries. As well as add master programs in OSH.

U.Norte 2022 |
Subprogram | KA1 - Credit Mobility |
Starting date | 2022-06-01 |
Ending Date | 2024-07-31 |
Coordinating Institution | Minho University, Portugal |
Following the memorandum of understanding signed on January 9, 2015, the Universities of Minho (UMinho), Porto (U.PORTO), and Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) developed tripartite talks with the specific aim of creating a consortium – UNorte.pt – that allowed the deepening of the strategic articulation between these institutions.
The implementation of UNorte.pt consortium allowed the three institutions, within their autonomy and institutional independence, to benefit from a reinforcement of joint articulation in areas considered of mutual interest, namely in terms of educational offer; content platforms for distance learning and online courses; student mobility; research; sharing of human resources; investment in areas of common interest, databases or scientific infrastructures; joint representation in transnational networks, among others.
The objectives also included the joint international promotion of the Northern Region as an area of superior reference and research training, which includes joint actions to attract foreign students and researchers.
Having in mind the above mentioned objectives, in 2017, the three institutions formed a mobility consortium "UNorte International" in order to promote the mobility of teaching and non-teaching staff within Europe, with the main goal of internationalising the curricula of the staff belonging to the three institutions. The consortium submitted common mobility projects between 2017 and 2020, having a total of 314 approved flows (255 teaching staff + 159 non-teaching staff).
Taking into account the success of the partnership, it was decided to renew the consortium accreditation, involving the same institutions:
- Universidade do Minho – UMinho (Coordinator);
- Universidade do Porto – U.PORTO (Partner);
- Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro – UTAD (Partner).
Knowledge circulation is a key element in higher education and all three institutions believe that is a crucial element to perform better at international level. The three universities involved are already recognised by the excellence of their performance in terms of internationalisation and implementation of mobility programmes and together form a strong and complementary network in terms of interdisciplinarity and resources. Together, they offer a combination of intersectorial skills and complement each other by broadening contacts within European/Partner countries and therefore promoting the Northern region.
The main results expected through the implementation of the UNorte International consortium are:
- To allow teaching and non-teaching staff from the 3 institutions to have more international opportunities, enriching their curriculum and knowledge;
- To enhance the international cooperation and internationalisation strategies as a Consortium, using the UNorte.pt strategy as a platform;
- To expand the visibility and international recognition of the knowledge provided by the Portuguese HEIs located at the North of Portugal and reinforce cooperation with partners from other countries.

Work4All 2022 |

Coordinating Institution | University of Porto, Portugal |
The WORK Consortium (Working Opportunities to Reinforce Knowledge) is a partnership coordinated by U.Porto, which has as members U.Minho, UTAD and UNL and, in this new Erasmus 21-27 funding framework, takes a new step in its "history", integrating also a renowned business partner: SONAE.
The first accreditation of the Consortium dates back to 2015, having been renewed in 2017 under the name WORK4ALL, with the aim of continuing the work developed. These 6 years of collaboration have resulted in more than 2500 approved E+ mobilities, corresponding to an investment that exceeds 4.5 million euros, with levels of participant satisfaction (reflected in the last submitted report) approaching 100%.
The member HEIs believe that the Consortium continues to be a relevant instrument to respond to the challenges and transversal/sectorial strategic priorities identified by the E+ Programme for 2021-27, maintaining the focus on employability. SONAE will be the perfect link between the HE and the business world, resulting in new possibilities for internships and a unique opportunity for all involved parts to acquire highly valued skills that will distinguish their professional paths and integration in the global labour market.
Additionally, the Portuguese strategy for 2021-27 sets the ambitious challenge of tripling the mobility of HE students "(...) reinforcing and diversifying the current pattern of mobility and students' countries of origin and destination". This Consortium is aligned with this objective and with the Programme, by promoting mobility opportunities for the academic communities of four national HEIs, in all academic/scientific areas, ensuring geographical diversity in the host destinations and thus guaranteeing that the "graduates leave higher education with the skills set they need, fit for the modern economy" (2021 annual work programme "Erasmus+" - 03/2021). The Consortium proposes to concentrate efforts in the dissemination of the new opportunities promoted by the Programme and, in a broader perspective, to contribute to a more inclusive HE network strongly articulated with the business sector.
Through mobility grants for internships, teaching and training, the WORK4ALL 21-27 Consortium aims to:
• Provide new and diversified mobility opportunities, aligned with the priorities set by the Erasmus+ Programme;
• Improve the employability of students/graduates and their career perspectives;
• Boost the participation of 3rd cycle students in mobility experiences;
• Stimulate the mobility of recent graduates from the different study cycles;
• Promote the inclusion of all members of the academic communities of each HEI in mobility activities (such as participants with special needs and from less privileged backgrounds/less opportunities);
• Raise awareness among teachers/staff on the importance of international professional training;
• Foster the implementation of inclusive approaches in mobility activities and promote new pedagogical methods, taking advantage of the synergies created by blended mobility;
• Promote the development of more eco-friendly activities/initiatives, namely by taking advantage of dematerialisation mechanisms in the management of mobilities, such as the use of "Erasmus Without Paper" (EWP) by HEIs and raising students' awareness for the generalised use of the Erasmus App;
• Reinforce the (inter)national cooperation of the HEIs involved, exploiting the benefits arising from the inclusion of a business partner in the Consortium.
Based on the exchange of experiences and good practices and on the creation of new and important synergies with SONAE, the Consortium will work hard to achieve tangible results and create added value. The Consortium believes that WORK4ALL 21-27 will have a significant impact at several levels:
• Individual, for participants, by developing high-level skills that correspond to the real needs of the global labour market;
• Institutional, by increasing visibility and international recognition of the quality of Portuguese HEIs and companies and allowing capacity building between partners;
• National/European, given that HEIs are engines of knowledge, contributing to the development of the whole society. It should be noted that, with the possibility of implementing mobilities in partner countries, aligned with the goal of expanding the international dimension of the E+ Programme, the impact is expected to extend beyond the EU borders.
The WORK4ALL consortium will therefore make a relevant contribution, in its sphere of action, to the 2030 Agenda and to the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), by making institutions and individuals better prepared to respond to the societal challenges that are imposed on a global scale.

The overall objective of Master program in Nuclear Decommissioning and Environmental Remediation (MINDER) is to fill the gap of skilled professionals in the field of D&ER. MINDER is being developed to tackle this issue by providing top-quality and broad multidisciplinary education in D&ER by training students to i) conduct analyses of complex D&ER multidisciplinary problems; ii) design sustainable solutions for these problems, and iii) develop sustainable implementation strategies for those solutions identified. MINDER contributes to fight climate change, but also to digital transformation and inclusion and diversity. It combines the expertise and experience of prominent groups in D&ER, within and outside the EU. The existence of a considerable number of contaminated sites by radioactive and non-radioactive substances worldwide and nuclear and non-nuclear facilities that need to be decommissioned is a situation that poses a great challenge to our society, particularly if sustainability goals are considered. These two activities require a multidisciplinary approach involving technological, social-economic, and managerial dimensions. The demand for expertise in these areas, i.e., professionals with solid technical and scientific backgrounds who grasp the complexities and multidisciplinary character of D&ER programmes is already a problem to many organisations and the existing gap will soon increase. The Consortium is composed of U.PORTO (PT); VUB (BE); NMBU (NO); FIU (US); FU (JP); and the IRD (BR) and supported by strongly committed Associated Partners: IAEA (AT); PNNL (US); OSU (US); and WISMUT (GE). These partners will provide access to world-class infrastructure for research and development and opportunities for graduating students to continue their studies. The target groups are students, young professionals, public bodies (regulators, policymakers), private/public enterprises, professionals and managers who change their career orientation towards D&ER.

Ending Date | 2023-11-30 |
Coordinating Institution | University of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain |
The DIANA EMDM proposal is expected to support the design of a new global master’s programme in Conservation Medicine (CM). CM goes beyond combining human and animal health, placing special emphasis on biodiversity conservation and the sustainable use of agriculture and natural resources, both in industrialized and developing countries. There is a marked gap in the skills and capacities of the European and global graduate workforce to help public administrations/agencies, civil society and companies to address the challenges of global change and its effects on biodiversity, agriculture, and disease emergence and take advantage of opportunities within ecological health. The proposed high-level study programme of the Master in Conservation Medicine (MCM) wants to promote effective measures bridging this gap and is in line with the objectives of the EMDM call as it will be jointly delivered by an international consortium of HEIs from Spain, Portugal, and Ireland in collaboration with several African, American, and Asian educational and non-educational partners with specific expertise. DIANA involves under-represented Erasmus Mundus EU Member States, third countries, and institutions, and addresses the underrepresented area of veterinary science. The MCM is aligned with the EU Green Deal and the UN SDGs and expects to contribute to the objectives of the European Higher Education Area. As a final objective we will have the design of a Joint master’s degree (the same single degree awarded to all students by all the degree awarding partners) corresponding to the equivalent of 120 ETCS, 30 per EU HEI and 30 as MSc Thesis in collaborating institutions. We will design MCM according to the European Qualification Framework, which aims to link the national qualification systems of different countries to a common European reference framework.

Testing software is very important, but not done well, resulting in problematic and erroneous software applications. The cause radicates from a skills mismatch between what is needed in industry, the learning needs of students, and the way testing is currently being taught at higher and vocational education institutes. The goal of this project is to identify and design seamless teaching materials for testing that are aligned with industry and learning needs. To represent the entire socio-economic environment that will benefit from the results, this project consortium is composed of a diverse set of partners ranging from universities to small enterprises. The project starts with research in sensemaking and cognitive models when doing and learning testing. Moreover, a study will be done to identify the needs of industry for training and knowledge transfer processes for testing. Based on the outcomes of this research and the study, we will design and develop capsules on teaching software testing including the instructional materials that take into account the cognitive models of students and the industry needs. Finally, we will validate these teaching testing capsules developed during the project.

New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) represent a large and increasing group of chemical compounds mainly of synthetic nature, characterized by pharmacological and toxicological properties particularly dangerous for consumers' health. As underlined in the last European Drug Report (EMCDDA, 2018) NPS continue to challenge public health: "[the priority is] to identify and respond to the emergence of drugs that has been lacking elsewhere”. It is important to clearly identify the specific characteristics of the “market” where NPS are available, and who the target groups (consumers) of this type of compound are. At a European level, it is estimated that about 5% of young Europeans aged between 15 and 24 years had already consumed, at least, one of these new drugs (Flash Eurobarometer, 2011). The ESPAD Report (2015) identified, for example, a growing number (3-4%) of 15-to 16-year-old school students in 24 European countries who frequently use NPS.
The majority of the “new consumers” of NPS come from the 15-16 years old age group, the school can certainly represent a significant environment where knowledge can be improved and effective strategies can be developed to promote student’s agency, students’ reflexive capacity, and key competencies to tackle early school leaving and to tackle the abuse of the above-mentioned substances.
The Innovative teaching and learning paths for the prevention of new drugs abuse (INES) project aims to create the conditions to support the collaborative networking of teachers, external experts, and students to find, test, adapt and use (within common teaching workflows) didactic strategies and resources to tackle the NPS problem.

Diversity Management (DM) originated in the USA during the 1960s with the Civil Rights Movement, gaining prominence in Europe in the 1990s. The European Union's efforts led to the creation of Diversity Charters in 2004, signed by 26 countries. However, there's a lack of consistent implementation of diversity policies, particularly in internal work environments, and a shortage of impact indicators. DM requires commitment from organizational leaders, involving skills like communication, conflict management, and contextual understanding. The InPluServ Project aims to address these gaps by enhancing skills of public administration managers, sharing best practices, and improving public services' ability to handle diversity. This aligns with Vocational Education and Training (VET) priorities and contributes to harmonizing impact indicators for DM policies across Europe.

Teacher Education (TE) in universities has remained one of the least internationalised subjects in higher education. Yet, teachers are expected to educate future generations to become global citizens. In other words, students of teacher education are so far ill-equipped to transform their prospective pupils into individuals with a global mindset. Since international projects in schools are comparatively rare and most teachers do not have or take opportunities to engage in further education in internationalisation at a later stage, (high) school education shows comparatively few international components. DITE focuses on the element of internationalisation to increase capabilities of future teachers by sensitising TE students to international perspectives.

In the XXI. century, information technology, and more recently, the Covid-19 crisis have reshaped our education system. Distance education learning has proved to be an effective, reliable, easily standardized, and, in general, cost-effective way of learning.
Internationally recognized e-learning platforms have been widely used in education, however, the use of digital and VR based platforms is not yet generally accepted, despite having certain advantages. The current challenge is not to invent new technologies but to ensure that educators can develop effective ways to deliver curricula in high-quality VR environments. This immersive and innovative means of visualization, the interaction and flexibility mean virtual reality systems are unmatched in terms of engagement and motivation with education, and also provide a scalable platform and a relatively easy-to-share solution for massive online learning.
On a European level, there is a demand for healthcare providers, scientists and skilled engineers and IT specialists. Employers are continuously searching for a highly trained workforce, and life-long learning is also essential for the development and progress of our society. This project aims to revolutionize and reshape medical and STEM education. The main objective of the V.I.B.E project is to enhance this digital transformation and develop the digital competences of participants and other stakeholders, using available innovative VR based IT methods and solutions, aiming to establish a connection between medical and STEM skills.
Previous, successfully implemented projects of the Participants in their specialized fields will serve as a strong foundation to achieve the addressed goals. During the lifetime of the project, three milestones are planned on a yearly basis.

According to European Development Plan and EU Commission plans and targets, use of technological and
digital devices are of great importance in all levels of education even in vocational education (VET). Digitalization is one of the key targets to be reached by EU schools by 2027 (European Council - E+Programme). With this project, standardisation of curriculum and contemporary digital tools will be developed and it will be adapted to an innovative technological device which will make the learners' learning process active and reality based. The present project (DigiRescueMe) is in line with the Digital Education Plan that concentrates on the need to stimulate, support and scale up the digital and innovative education practises. As the integration of VR simulation and 3D techniques into the rescue education an innovative technology will be achieved especially for successful rescue education in vocational schools which is also aimed by European Council throughout Europe. By use of these innovative techniques and digital tools, the learners' knowledge will be kept alive and their readiness level and motivation will be high all the time. To create a safer environment, DigiREscueMe Project focuses on improving readiness, resilience and capacity of learners in vocational education. VET: In addition to above, with the integration of innovative approaches, more people will be able to reach knowledge and results which will make the effect of the project higher even than the desired level. Again as for European Development Plan, standardization of several issues including occupational health and safety (OSH) is of great importance. To enable this internationalization of the strategies, an alliance which is composed of professionals from different countries and different sectors will come together. In this context, the rescue processes of different countries which are based on national regulations and cultural barriers will be demolished and instead of these, a standardized common rescue education will be formed as a result of this partnership from different sectors. For the first time, the mental wellbeing in the rescue education will be taken into consideration, pedagogues and psychologists will be included in the process and a great contribution will be made both physically and mentally. All these international-based standardization and digitalization of rescue measures will make a contribution to vocational education and training. By using the products of the DigiRescueMe, VET providers will have an international-based road map for their workers mainly and especially in mining companies. So the institutional background and new research will add value to Vocational Education and Training quality by adapting new provision to current applications. With the creation of content as a project result, a standardized curriculum which will meet the needs of rescue education and vocational schools, will be developed. This curriculum will be innovative in terms of being composed by persons from different areas such as teachers, miners, engineers, pedagogues and psychologists and it will include technological tools which will make it more developed, digital and different from its contemporaries. Implementation of such a joint curriculum will make a contribution to the development of educational and technological capacities of vocational schools and training centers.

The needs assessments pointed to several challenges related to power dynamics that adult educators face in their work. Some of these challenges are related to individual hierarchy: educators have been criticised for being too vertical, others for letting all guidance out of their hands, which shows that finding the proper balance to conform to changing expectations is not easy.
Challenges connected to group-based hierarchisation are even more complex: educators unwillingly offend members of minorised groups by failing to counter manifestations of racist attitudes in the classroom, by failing to properly integrate a post-colonialist or anti-racist perspective to their training, or by proposing division between men and women (excluding a non-binary person) etc. On the other hand, they are sometimes criticised for placing too much attention on oppressions. Visibly it is difficult for many of them to keep up with the changing representations and expectations for dealing with exclusion. (Please see needs assessment in annex for examples of concrete incidents)

Each year, thanks to the Erasmus programme, thousands of students in Europe make part of their studies in another country using a second language they know with a proficiency level B1/B2. A path to facilitate a successful mobility exchange, as well as students inclusion in a multicultural and multilingual environment, is: stimulating innovative learning and teaching practices using digital devices and content, offering educational models to modernize and internationalize the higher education system as well as to place European training experiences on the global training scene through MOOCs; addressing digital transformation through the development of digital readiness, resilience, and capacity, through the achievement of higher mastery levels in specific domains of use.
These are the main priorities of the LMOOC4Slav - Romance Languages for Slavic-Speaking University Students, an Erasmus+ funded project (2021-1-IT02-KA220-HED-000027501) coordinated by the University for Foreigners of Perugia (Italy), in partnership with the University of Porto (Portugal), the University of Masaryk (Czech Republic) the Jagiellonian University (Poland), the SS. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (The Republic of North Macedonia), and the FENICE - National Federation of Teachers Centre of Initiative for Europe (Italy).
Its primary target audience, although not exclusively, consists of university students, mainly with Slavic languages as L1, learning Romance languages, specifically Italian and Portuguese, who intend to do a mobility period at a university in Portugal or Italy. Learning a Romance language presents several difficulties for Slavic native speakers, including, for some Slavic languages, the need to acquire a different writing system. Furthermore, and contrary to other languages, little work has been done to produce innovative and open access quality pedagogical resources and materials for teaching Italian and Portuguese for academic purposes. The project proposes solutions regarding those difficulties while facilitating the development of linguistic and intercultural skills in the target academic contexts.
The project centres around the production of two MOOCs, one for Italian, and the other for Portuguese, organised into six modules that promote students’ development of linguistic fluency in academic contexts, their access to authentic academic situations as well as learning tools to enhance their ability to learn how to learn. Besides supporting the creation of a learning path, the project also focuses on developing a repertoire of Open Educational Resources (OERs) intended for Slavic language teachers of Portuguese and Italian and students. These resources will allow their reuse in different learning environments, which will be guided by the publication online of a pedagogical guide for integrating MOOCs and OERs will be published online and aimed at Slavic teachers and students.
The project outputs will remain available in an open-source repository after its end ensuring its sustainability.

- Universidade do Minho – UMinho (Coordinator);
- Universidade do Porto – U.PORTO (Partner);
- To allow teaching and non-teaching staff from the 3 institutions to have more international opportunities, enriching their curriculum and knowledge;
- To enhance the international cooperation and internationalisation strategies as a Consortium, using the UNorte.pt strategy as a platform;
- To expand the visibility and international recognition of the knowledge provided by the Portuguese HEIs located at the North of Portugal and reinforce cooperation with partners from other countries.

The project enhances the quality of Colombian, Cuban and Panamanian universities by transferring the EU expertise to design and implement a quality referential (framework, tools & methodology) based on impact assessment. This tool complements the actual QA systems currently limited to quality of teaching and research. This fosters an evolution towards an impact-driven culture in the institutions which improves the quality and relevance of the services that they provide to their community. The project results in an impact QA system, inspired by EU experience and customized to the 3 national contexts. The HEIs are capacitated for applying the quality referential at the institutional level (impact is measured and included in strategic development) and at the functional level (more activities/projects are targeted at local communities and their impact is maximized). The fitness for purpose and practical relevance of this QA system are verified by its implementation in 11 universities, under the mentorship of European experts.Results and best practices are compiled in two publications series: one for senior university management explaining how to measure, monitor and increase impact and collecting best practices. The second series, for faculty and specialist staff, provides guidelines and inspiration on how to maximize impact of universities activities for local environment and illustrates it it by a case studies compendium. Main findings and recommendations are shared with the 3 countries stakeholders during the project conference to build awareness and stimulate replication.The project promotes cultural changes in the universities who understand better how to answer the needs of their environment how to engage into innovative and more impactful activities. Regional & local communities benefit from the concrete results of the pilot projects and tighten their links with HEIs open to the local environment.

veterinary field from Europe to Asia and from Asia to Europe. The entire partnership will work together building
and reinforcing curriculum and all the teaching material needed for a high quality standard veterinary college to
be implemented in Asian partner countries. The proposal strategy is as follows; firstly, an infield study of the
situation will give to the project a faithful idea of the state of the art. Secondly, this information will be reflected in
a Situation Report (1 per Country) and shared on the ReVET platform. New veterinary curricula will be designed
by EU and Asian academic staff; Asian teachers will receive a training of trainers in Europe (at the same time
they will share their experience throughout open-day talks and lectures in the European HEIs). Third, all teaching
materials needed, will be generated by European REVET Partners HEIs. Last, but not least, the new/up-dated
curriculum will be implemented in the last year of the project. The impact of the project will be as a cascade: the
teaching-learning process of the veterinary student is reinforced, thus skills will be improved, as the results of the
improvement, the livestock production and welfare will be most favourable alleviating hunger and ensuring a
better control of food safety. Finally zoonotic outbreaks will be reduced contributing to an overall beneficiary
impact for the world.

The “Feasibility Study for a European Forum for Enhanced Collaboration in Teaching” (EFFECT) aims at assessing the potential of a European level structure that would contribute to enhancing higher education teaching. It addresses the needs of teaching practitioners, universities and organisations and networks dedicated to teaching enhancement. The three-year project is led by the European University Association (EUA), in collaboration with the Higher Education Academy (HEA), EADTU, ESU, ETUCE-CSEE, the rectors’ associations of Germany (HRK), Hungary (HRC), Ireland (IUA) and Poland (CRASP) and universities delegated by their rector’s conferences (University of Eastern Finland, University of Latvia, University of Porto). EFFECT will be conducted in three strands: Strand 1 will review good practice materials and approaches for teaching enhancement. It will pilot two modules providing a teaching enhancement opportunity to a group of university teachers from different parts of Europe. Strand 2 will facilitate exchange on institutional approaches to teaching enhancement, bringing together vice-rectors in charge of learning and teaching. It will develop and test a support package for strategic approaches for teaching staff enhancement. Strand 3 will look into the prospects of establishing a European Forum (EFFECT), which would support individual teachers and universities, and provide a professional network and a basis for advocacy. If found at all feasible and of European added value, the Forum is likely to become a very light structure making best use of pooling of resources and digital technologies, owned by the European higher education community. The project is expected to stimulate a European debate on conditions and support for university teaching. It is expected to have an impact on European policy making, as the topic is important for national administrations and institutions, and in the framework of the EU Modernisation Agenda and the Bologna Process.
