Dissemination session on mobility opportunities for staff

In order to promote the mobility opportunities among the U.Porto academic and administrative staff, the International Relations Office organized, on October 14, a session addressed to U.Porto teachers and staff interested in undertaking a period of mobility under the Erasmus+ Programme during this academic year 2016/2017.

Erasmus Mundus & Mobile+ Lunch

The International Office of U.PORTO offered on October 13th a get together lunch for the new Erasmus Mundus and Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility - MOBILE+ students.

This lunch, attended by over 150 students from 50 countries outside Europe, was preceded and succeeded by an Orientation Session, where the students were given important information on academic, financial and administrative aspects.

The event also aimed to bring together the two generations of mobility programmes of the European Commission with countries outside Europe: the “Erasmus Mundus” programme, which has its official end in July 2018, and the new program “Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility”, which replaces it.

Some of the countries represented at the lunch were Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Myanmar, Armenia, Ukraine, India, Brazil, Albania or Nigeria.

Today the GT_CIM gather for another meeting to, besides the preparation of the new academic year, present the final (and positive) results of the Erasmus Report + 2014-2016. Also, the satisfaction surveys of international students were discussed and, again, the University of Porto exceeded the expectations.

This meeting also count with the special participation of the Faculty of Medicine that presented a study on the evolution of mobility programmes in the FMUP in the past 10 years.

All the faculties were represented in the meeting.

European universities gather in Oporto to discuss funding of these institutions

Between 6 and 7 October, the city of Oporto hosted the Funding Forum of the European University Association (EUA), an  representative organisation of universities and national rectors’ conferences in 47 European countries.

In the third edition of this meeting, under the theme "Efficient universities: Value for society", the results of the study of the EUA Public Funding Observatory, which analyses the evolution of the systems adopted in 28 countries and demonstrates the tendency of European governments to reduce the funding for universities, were introduced.

Delegation of the University of Maryland Baltimore County, EUA

The University of Porto welcomed, between October 3rd and 6th, an institutional visit of the University of Maryland Baltimore County, USA, in order to deepen and expand the existing collaboration since 1999.

The delegation, composed by Prof. Antonio Moreira, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Prof. Lee Blaney, Assistant Professor, Environmental Engineering, Prof. Marc Zupan, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering, Global Engineering, International Mobility Exchanges, and Dr. Brian Soulders, International Education Services, Administration and Logistics of International Mobility exchanges, was received, on the first day, in the Rectorate, by the Rector, Prof. Dr. Sebastião Feyo de Azevedo, and the Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Culture, Prof. Dr. Fátima Marinho.

The programme also included visits to FEUP and to the Centre for Competences in Cyber Security and Privacy (C3P).

Results: Competition "Wear the U.Porto t-shirt"

  Awards

The jury of the photo contest "Wear the U.Porto t-shirt", promoted by the International Relations Office, within which a total of 110 photographs of U.Porto students, 49 incoming and outgoing students,  were submitted by filling out the online form available on this platform, gathered today.

After a selection of the best photos, the highest score was for the original photo of Chiara Rotter, from the University of Primorska, Slovenia:

The jury also deliberated to commend the photos of Alla Tirsina, from the National Center of Public Health, Moldova, and João Carlos Araujo, from FEP/U.PORTO.
